On today’s show, I’m joined by Dr. Laura Harrison, a Senior Cultural Resources Advisor at Historic Environment Scotland — a non-departmental public body in Scotland that cares for and promotes Scotland’s historic environment. While earning her PhD at the University of Edinburgh, Dr. Harrison conducted research on the Declaration of Arbroath and the names it has been known by over the years.
In her 2017 essay, “That Famous Manifesto: The Declaration of Arbroath, Declaration of Independence, and the Power of Language,” she expanded on her research into the naming practices of the Declaration of Arbroath, and also investigated some of the possible reasons that the Declaration of Arbroath and the American Declaration of Independence are often associated with one another, although no scholarly evidence exists to support the links between the two.
Thanks so much to Dr. Harrison for being on the show, and talking with me about her research. You can read her 2017 paper, “That Famous Manifesto..” by clicking here.
